The 10 winners will get a custom denim jacket featuring exclusive patches made by Oxford Pennant in collaboration with Whataburger. “There’s something very fun to me about creating a custom jacket that you could wear to a Whataburger that represents your love for Whataburger -- especially if you’re a super fan,” said the company’s co-founder Dave Horesh. “When you find other superfans, you want to gravitate to them and this is an opportunity for Whataburger’s biggest fans to tell everybody that they love the brand.”

The five custom patches Oxford Pennant made in collaboration with Whataburger include a representation of the iconic A-frame architecture, a Whataburger cup, french fries, an orange-and-white pennant and the Whataburger logo. They won't be for sale, though -- instead they'll adorn 10 custom denim jackets up for grabs in the #WhataCustomJacketContest that challenges fans to show off their best Whataburger-inspired looks on Instagram. 

For Horesh, who started Oxford Pennant in 2013 with Brett Mikoll, it’s a collaboration that celebrates both companies shared values of quality, creativity, and fun. 

“It’s not just another food brand, it’s a brand that people really love and are proud of -- a brand people get obsessive over,” Horesh said. "You can tell Whataburger is a brand that really enjoys being Whataburger."

Horesh and Mikoll, who share a love of nostalgia and vintage, wanted to start a business creating authentic wool felt pennants. But in their search for a manufacturer, they realized there wasn't a manufacturer in the United States making old-school wool felt products. So, they rolled up their sleeves and learned to make their own. 

“For us, we wanted to learn the process and own the process,” Horesh said. “It’s a better-made product, it’s made in the United States, it’s made by somebody who’s paid a fair wage for their time -- it’s something we’re really proud of, and people have really responded well to the company.”

When the first felt pennants came off the line, Oxford Pennant posted them to their fledgling Instagram account. The social media shares and follows started growing, and so did the opportunities. J. Crew, Adidas, Willie Nelson, Wilco, Harley Davidson, and even the Kennedy Center have come calling. Oxford Pennant has grown to employ 28 people and has an Instagram following of more than 140,000 fans. 

 “Whether you want one pennant with your baby’s name on it to hang above your crib, or you want 5,000 pennants to sell at a major sporting event, we can do all those things,” Horesh says. “And we try to treat every customer like they’re our only customer.”
