DJ duo brings the after party to Whataburger

Growing up in Dallas, Texas, Josue Rodriguez mostly associated Whataburger with trips to South Texas to visit family. Now, it brings back memories of DJ-ing parties with his brother Caleb — and eating Whataburger after each one.

When Josue’s family relocated from Dallas to Michigan, he didn’t know how much they would miss Whataburger.

“Once we moved, we really became more prideful in a lot of Texas things,” Josue said, “and Whataburger was one of those things.”

Born into a family that loved music and dancing, Josue and Caleb would spend their long Michigan winters playing music to pass the time. They started DJ-ing together when their parents threw a party and asked them to supply the tunes.

Spinning one trip into a tradition

When they moved back to Dallas, they started picking up more DJ gigs. One night, on their way back to Dallas from Waxahachie, Texas, they decided to stop at Whataburger, and a tradition was born.

They started going after every gig, and often invited partygoers to join them. No matter where their gig was, or how late the party ended, they knew they could count on Whataburger to be there.

“It became our go-to spot to unwind,” Josue said, “sharing food, laughter, and late-night memories with family and friends.”

Caleb passed away in 2021, and Josue mostly stopped DJ-ing. But every now and then, when a family member has a wedding or anniversary to celebrate, he’ll bring out the old equipment and get the party started — and then afterwards, Whataburger.
