New 24-Hour Restaurant Under Construction and Set to Open Summer 2018

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Feb. 2, 2018 – Whataburger, known for fresh, made to order burgers, is opening its second Tuscaloosa-area restaurant later this year near University of Alabama. The restaurant is currently under construction and plans to open, weather permitting, this summer at 13th Street and McFarland Boulevard.

“Whataburger is excited to bring more flavor to Crimson Tide fans with the opening of our second restaurant open 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Whataburger Director of Operations John Attra. “We’re a proud sponsor of Alabama athletics and look forward to serving familiar faces, along with new friends and neighbors for breakfast, lunch and dinner.”

Whataburger is hiring up to 100 positions for the second Tuscaloosa location and currently looking for hard working, self-starting restaurant managers to start a career that can last a lifetime. The company places a strong emphasis on developing its employees, referred to as Family Members – including providing opportunities to participate in leadership and career development training at Whataburger University located in San Antonio, Texas. Interested candidates can find more information about the open positions and benefits on the company’s website.

The first Whataburger location in Tuscaloosa is scheduled to open in the coming weeks.

Whataburger has focused on its fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly customer service since 1950 when Harmon Dobson opened the first Whataburger as a small roadside burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dobson gave his restaurant a name he hoped to hear customers say every time they took a bite of his made-to-order burgers: “What a burger!” Within the first week, people lined up around the block for his 25 cent, 100 percent beef burgers served on five-inch buns. Today, the company is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, with more than 820 locations in 10 states with sales of more than $2 billion annually. Visit www.whataburger.com for more information.
