Whataburger to Bring the Heat to Tampa with Plans to Open New Restaurants in 2026
The Beloved Burger Chain Will Bring Texas-sized Flavor to the Tampa Bay Area of the Sunshine State
Whataburger, the iconic Texas-based fast-food chain known for its fresh, made-to-order burgers, is thrilled to announce its expansion into Tampa, Florida, with the opening of its first restaurants in the Tampa Bay area slated for 2026.
The move marks a significant milestone for Whataburger, which continues to share its beloved burgers, fries and shakes with a broader audience. The company has been strategically planning this expansion to ensure that the Whataburger experience remains as authentic and enjoyable as it has been since 1950.
To celebrate this announcement, Whataburger brought its food truck to Lykes Gaslight Square Park in downtown Tampa on Friday and gave away its wildly popular Patty Melts to guests who lined up for a taste of the bold Whataburger flavors. Whataburger EVP and COO Debbie Stroud and Whataburger EVP and CAO Alexander Ivannikov joined Whataburger CEO Ed Nelson at the park to share the big news with the community.
Whataburger’s commitment to its heritage of quality ingredients, friendly service and community involvement will be the cornerstone of its operations in Tampa. The new locations will bring the classic Whataburger menu to Florida while creating job opportunities and partnerships within the community.
Whataburger invites Tampa residents to stay tuned for more details on the grand opening celebrations, which promise to be as big and bold as the flavors on the menu.
In 1950, Whataburger began offering the now-iconic five-inch burger from a humble storefront in Corpus Christi, Texas. The homegrown restaurant has expanded 74 years later to more than 1,040 locations across its 16-state footprint. Its original recipes are made to order, just like you like it. Along with its commitment to hot and fresh food, Whataburger is committed to hospitality and making meaningful connections in the communities it serves.
Details regarding the new Tampa locations will be announced in 2025. For more information about Whataburger, please visit whataburger.com.
