Driving Ambition: Fueled by Whataburger

Tristan Peña Is Living a Teenage Racing Dream

Tristan Peña isn’t old enough to have a driver’s license, but that doesn’t stop him from making a name for himself on the racetrack. The 14-year-old from San Antonio is tearing up the stock car racing scene, where he’s already earned several trophies, a Whataburger sponsorship, and an electrifying nickname: “The Texas Tornado.”

A true phenom, Peña entered his first quarter-midget race and placed second at just seven years old. He’s since graduated to late model cars, and he now competes in CARS Tour West, repping the Whataburger orange-and-white stock car with the number 50. Peña has his sights set on NASCAR, but he’s happy to take it one race at a time—and to eat at Whataburger after each one.

“Tristan is the biggest Whataburger fan,” says his father, Jason Peña. “We feel blessed to represent a hometown company—our boy’s a hometown driver.”
