On Aug. 8, 1950, Whataburger started with a single roadside stand in Corpus Christi, Texas. Now, 69 years later, with more than 830 restaurants in 10 states, we’re proud to celebrate our birthday with the community. 

What better way to celebrate Whataburger's birthday than by donating more than one million dollars and 1,000+ volunteer hours completed, we celebrated the best way we know how - all week long!  Each day, Family Members participated in different service projects for organizations working hard to create a positive impact in San Antonio and surrounding communities.  

This week, we donated:

• $250,000 to The Children’s Shelter to fund the Whataburger Center for Children and Youth that will offer a temporary home to almost 2,500 kids who are survivors of abuse and abandonment.
• $500,000 to Childsafe to found the Whataburger Resource Room, a space that will provide necessities and a comforting place where children can begin to heal from abuse and neglect.
• $25,000 to San Antonio Parks to build a community playground where kids of all ages can gather for fun.

At Whataburger, we’re proud to be a place where goodness lives – and we’re even more proud to spread our spirit and culture in the communities we serve.

We kicked off 2019 Orange Spirit Week at Mission Road Ministries – one of two non-profit organizations in Texas caring for children with developmental disabilities who have been removed from their family by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.

Whataburger volunteers donated 200 hours today, beautifying the grounds and making crafts with the residents.

Family Members helped make a difference at Haven for Hope – a place of new beginnings for people experiencing homelessness in Bexar County. Whataburger volunteers donated more than 240 hours today, painting, landscaping, washing vehicles, deep-cleaning designated areas and brightening the day for residents by assisting with indoor games.

Today, Family Members volunteered at The Children’s Shelter – a safe haven for child survivors of abuse, neglect and abandonment in San Antonio and Bexar County. Whataburger volunteers rolled up their sleeves and spent the day organizing, painting, assembling and planting.

We also wrote Notes of Love to both military veterans and college students to spread our spirit.

To wrap up the day, Whataburger was proud to present the Children’s Shelter with a gift of $250,000 to create the Whataburger Center for Children and Youth. This facility will offer hope and a temporary home to almost 2,500 kids each year.

More than 50 Whataburger volunteers spent their day volunteering at ChildSafe – Bexar County's care center for child survivors of abuse and neglect, as well as their non-offending family members.The Whataburger team helped beautify the grounds, sorted through donated school supplies and stuffed backpacks that will be given to students for the upcoming school year. 

Whataburger also presented a gift of $500,000 to found the Whataburger Resource Room. This space will provide everything kids need to begin healing – from stuffed animals to toiletries.

Playtime! This morning, Whataburger Family Members got to work landscaping and assembling parts of a Whataburger-themed playground at Timber Ridge Park in Northwest San Antonio. The new orange playset – complete with a slide, climber, monkey bars and more – will provide a safe place for community kids to gather.

Whataburger donated $25,000 to build the playground, plus $5,000 worth of volunteer hours to build it today. The park is open to the public, and available for kids of all ages.
