More than 350 volunteers gathered at the San Antonio Food Bank for the inaugural Honor Through Action Serves Day, joining organizations including USAA, H-E-B, Accenture, the Spurs and Whataburger to support military families, veterans and others facing food insecurity.

The event was part of the Honor Through Action Alliance, a collaborative initiative led by USAA that supports the financial security, well-being and long-term success of service members, veterans and military families. Through hands-on service, participating organizations worked together to address food insecurity across Southwest Texas.

Throughout the afternoon, Whataburger Family Members joined fellow volunteers to assemble family food boxes, package fresh produce and prepare meal components for distribution. The event took place during National Hunger Month and shortly after the start of the school year, highlighting the importance of ensuring families have access to nutritious food.

Together, volunteers prepared 9,338 meal components for children's meal programs, assembled 1,500 family food boxes providing the equivalent of 27,377 meals, and packaged 500 produce bags representing an additional 12,741 meals.

The effort demonstrated how community partnerships can turn a shared commitment into tangible support for neighbors in need. For Whataburger Family Members, participating alongside fellow organizations was an opportunity to put gratitude into action by helping provide essential resources to those who have served our country and others experiencing food insecurity.

“

“Being part of this initiative was an opportunity to bring Whataburger Family Members together around something that matters. Working alongside our Veterans of Whataburger ERG and community partners, we were able to contribute to a larger effort to support military families and veterans facing food insecurity. It’s a reminder that when we come together to serve our communities, even a few hours of volunteering can make a meaningful difference.”
