Why Whataburger holds a special place in Liz Robles’ heart 

Growing up as a child of immigrant parents in El Paso, Texas, Liz Robles recalls the joy of walking a half-mile to Whataburger and sharing a burger and strawberry shake with her two siblings. 

“It didn’t happen often, but when it did, it felt incredibly special,” said Liz. 

When she was a teenager, Liz met her husband Ben, and Whataburger became part of their journey together. 

“After crossing the border and having a night out in Mexico, we would come back and eat Whataburger at two o'clock in the morning,” Liz said. On nights when Ben had to work, she’d come back from a night out, pick up Whataburger and take it to him at work. 

Over the years, Liz says, they’ve celebrated countless milestones with Whataburger. When they bought their first house — one that she’d admired since she was a young girl — the first thing they did was clean its floors and then sit on them, eating Whataburger in their empty new home. 

What started as an occasional treat became part of her routine. 

Liz spent years working as a nurse, and never had time to meet anyone on her lunch break. But now that she works an office job, she and Ben have a standing lunch date at Whataburger every Friday. The employees at their go-to location greet them by name as soon as they walk in with their Whataburger Yeti cups. 

“We’ve come a long way since those days of splitting a single meal,” said Liz. “But Whataburger has always remained the same — full of comfort, great food, and even better memories.”
