Sealing Up a Legacy

Topping off Whataburger’s 75th anniversary celebration

To close the lid on Whataburger’s 75th anniversary celebration, the company created a one-of-a-kind time capsule to capture this moment for future generations.

In true Whataburger fashion, the time capsule is less of a capsule—and more of a giant Whataburger With Cheese that stands about four feet tall.

“We could do a box,” said Corporate Communications Group Director Taylor Clark. “But wouldn't it be a lot cooler if we did a massive burger?”

Leaders from each region, and each department at Whataburger’s home office, submitted items that provide a snapshot of the company at 75 years.

In 2050, when Whataburger celebrates a century of serving up delicious meals and delightful memories, the burger will be unlocked—and the Whataburger family will finally be able to see what’s inside.

“It's all about excitement and grounding where you are in such a great legacy story as ours,” said Clark. “It spurs a lot of conversation and thoughts about what might be in there. That’s the fun part.”

A celebratory burger-sealing ceremony

On December 2, 2025, President & CEO Debbie Stroud appeared alongside Clark to commemorate the occasion and led the singing of “Happy Birthday” to the future Whataburger Family Members who will open it on Whataburger's 100th birthday in 2050. Polaroid photos and a video of the event were among the last items to be added to the box before it got sealed.

“Seventy-five years ago, this brand started with a simple promise: serve a burger so big and so amazing that people would say, Whataburger!” said Stroud. “For generations, our Family Members, our franchise partners, and our guests have carried that promise forward with pride, heart, and a whole lot of orange spirit.”

“May the next 25 years be filled with the same grit, joy, and innovation that got us here.”
