Friends Reunite for Pre-Prom Whataburger Meal

When Adan Bernal moved to San Antonio before his senior year to play football at Antonian High School, he knew it’d mean having to sacrifice time with his closest friends back in Katy, Texas. But Adan, Avi, Jordan, Reid, Lavi, Alex, and Rodrigo all knew their bond was strong enough to overcome the distance.

“We’ve always had each other’s backs,” Avi Kaistha said. “Two hours apart didn’t feel like a big deal.”

The friends stayed in touch, and Adan made plans to attend senior prom back in Katy. To make it an extra-special evening, Jordan Schiffner suggested they enjoy a pre-prom meal at Whataburger, which was always a go-to spot for the boys.

“We were there at all hours, and they always served us with a smile,” Adan said.

Fancy Ketchup and Fancy Clothes

The boys all arrived at the restaurant together, but their moms told them to wait five minutes before coming in. While they waited, their moms helped Operating Partner Jesus Guzman and the rest of the staff prepare for their entrance.

The patrons who were already eating there didn’t know what to make of the sharp-dressed young men.

“The look on everyone’s face was hilarious,” Lavi Schwartz said. “We definitely had an entourage vibe.”

When they walked in, the restaurant was decorated with balloons, an inflatable arch, and a table full of gifts. As they ate, WhataGuy surprised them to help celebrate and make sure the meal would be one of the most memorable of their lives.

“They showed us so much love,” Adan said. “They walked us in and out and introduced us to the staff.”

For the boys, who had shared so many meals together in that dining room, it felt like a full-circle moment.

“It’s proof that the love we’ve had for Whataburger has always been mutual,” Avi said. “It’s not just a place we love; it’s a place that loves us back.”
