Whataburger Recognized as Top Franchise Restaurant Chain

Franchise Times 400 ranked the brand 34 out of 400 based on systemwide sales

Offering the freshest ingredients and friendliest service, it’s no secret that folks enjoy their Whataburger, and why it’s no surprise the brand has been recognized on the 2023 Franchise Times 400 list as one of the top franchise restaurant chains in the U.S.

Based on systemwide sales surpassing $3 billion from 925 locations at the time of the ranking, Whataburger snagged the 34th spot on the list, an improvement of 13 spots from last year. To date, the brand has 950 restaurants and counting.

“The energy around Whataburger over the last few years has been electric. With our franchise partners, we’ve recently entered Colorado Springs and Kansas City, and will soon be in Las Vegas, with no signs of slowing down,” said Joel Griffiths, Vice President, Franchise at Whataburger. “Coming in 34th out of 400 other brands, some of which have a global presence, is a testament to the efforts of our entire Whataburger family as we thoughtfully expand.”

The Franchise Times Top 400 is the most comprehensive ranking of its kind. Backed by more than 20 years of research, the annual list is the culmination of a five-month reporting effort.
