Whataburger’s First Kansas Location to Open in Overland Park
Nine Kansas City-area restaurants planned for this year
March 3, 2022 — Whataburger is coming to the state of Kansas! A restaurant opening at 8420 W 135th St in Overland Park on Monday, March 7, at 11 a.m. will be the first in the state.
The new restaurant will be the third Whataburger in the Kansas City area, following openings last year in Lee’s Summit and Independence, Missouri. It’s the first of nine area restaurants that Whataburger and its franchise partner KMO Burger plan to open this year.
“We’re grateful for the amazing reception our first two Kansas City-area restaurants have received,” said Whataburger Senior Area Coach Mike Garza. “We’re excited to open our first Whataburger in Kansas as we continue to grow in the region.”
The Overland Park Whataburger team of 120 employees is ready to serve the community through the dining room open from 6 a.m. to midnight and the drive-thru open 24/7. Curbside pickup and delivery for online orders will be available in the coming weeks.
Whataburger will continue to grow its brand locally with three more corporate-owned restaurant locations planned to open this year at the following locations:
- 905 Hwy 7, Blue Springs, Mo. – spring 2022
- 1921 W Foxwood Dr, Raymore, Mo. – summer 2022
- 9505 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Kan. – fall 2022
Franchisee KMO Burger, which includes Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes as a partner, plans to open its first Whataburger this spring. It plans a total of six Kansas City-area restaurants this year with additional locations announced for 2023. KMO will open 30 Whataburgers spanning from Wichita, Kansas to St. Joseph, Missouri in the next seven years. Announced locations are:
