Helping Students Ace the School Year—Local Educators Honored by Whataburger for National Teacher Appreciation Week 2023

Offers and WhataTeacher grants highlighted appreciation for teachers

Whataburger is helping serve up great educations with support for our inspirational teachers! It’s all part of our Whataburger Feeding Student Success program focusing on charitable giving at the intersection of food insecurity and education.

Our WhataTeachers change lives and deliver guidance, love and leadership each and every day of the school year. Teachers  like John Herber of Oakcrest Elementary in Pensacola, a fifth grade science teacher known for his out-of-the-box teaching and personal tutoring attention.

Madison Hatfield of The Colony High School in Dallas is a star first-year teacher bringing positivity and helping students shine. “Her classroom is just always happy cause she is always happy!” said one of her students.

Adrian Jara of Zavala Elementary School in El Paso is known for his patience, empathy and his caring, collaborative classroom. “Mr. Jara has a safe classroom culture where making mistakes is welcome and used as a learning tool and stepping stone for improvement,” said the school.

During National Teacher Appreciation Week, it was our honor to celebrate our teachers with  free breakfast and other discounts. Teachers and school faculty were able to order a Taquito with cheese, Breakfast on a Bun, or  Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit for free throughout the weekand a 25% discount was offered on all retail items in our Whatastore, including WhataTeacher branded merch. Talk about an A+ week!

That’s not the only thing we cooked up for these hometown heroes. WhataTeacher award grants honored those who made extraordinary impacts on their students and in their communities. More than 70 teachers, who were nominated by their peers and community members, were awarded a $1,000 grant for their schools. This added up to over $70,000 to support education across our 14-state footprint.

(We’re only able to do that math thanks to the efforts of our special teachers!)

The Whataburger Feeding Student Success program also includes Whataburger Resource Rooms on college campuses, the Whataburger Feeding Student Success Scholarship and partnerships with local schools on education and hunger awareness programs. To learn more, visit Community Connections
